What does derogatory public record mean? I just got my first credit card?

What does it mean when it says “derogatory public record” on your credit report? I ask this because I’m 23, and I just got my first credit card about half a year ago. I’m currently employed and pay off my credit card each month.
I was just surprised to see this on my record since I just got my first credit card.

It means that there is a black mark on your credit file that is a matter of public record for example a tax lien or a judgment.

Get a copy of your credit report and see what shows. A derogatory public record is usually a lien or judgment or similar from public records.
