be more speicific. Tax lien? State or Fed? Civil Judgement? You usually will never get those things off until its paid, The IRS dont play around when you own them money, and Judgements are renewable in most states, which could effect your Credit report for up to 20 years! Yikes!

It depends on what it is. Bankruptcy’s stay on your report for 10 years. charge off accounts I think is 7 years.

Well it’s not keeping you from owning anything. It’s keeping you from going into debt for things though. You can still own stuff you just have to pay cash for it. OOOH! Did I just say CASH? Sorry for being politically incorrect with my language….. Geesh imagine actually SAVING for something what was I thinking?

You can not take public records off of your credit report if they are correct. They will fall off though in 10 years if the case is closed. If you have a tax lien and do not pay it off it will stay on there as long as it is not paid.

If the information is true and in the Public Domain, I would say Good Luck! The things you can try is to write to the three major Credit Bureaus and challange the validity of every derrogatory entry on your record. Demand documented proof that their entries are in fact correct and if they can not produce such documentation, demand that they be removed from your report.

They will definately try to legaleeze their way around your demands, but the fact is, they are required by law to respond to any challenge. Keep challanging the entries in as many different ways as possible. Eventually they will tire of all the man hours it is taking to respond to your challenges and remove the entry.

As far as ever owning your own anything, they are only allowed to report derrogatory information for seven years from the date of loss or the date of last consumer action (I think 10 years on a bankruptcy) on the account, so eventually it will die a natural death (or should).

Also, I really don’t know what you mean about a “personal public record”. If it is a matter of Public Record, then its not really personal and has no reasonable expectation of confidentiality. Anyhow, unless this entry has direct relevance to your credit worthiness, the credit bureaus should not be reporting it anyway. Unless you can see a direct correlation, challenge its relevancy and tell them that their reporting it as relevent is a defamation of character and you are requesting that they cease and desist the promulgation of irrelevant proceedings immediately.

Of course it goes without saying to keep a copy of all correspondence and anything you originate, send Certified, Return Receipt Requested. Again, Good Luck!
